Logic problem

  attorney  mechanic  carpenter  teacher
Joe  X  :)  #3 X  #2  :)
Tom   :)  X  :)  X

From clue #1 you know that the mechanic and the carpenter are 2 different people.
Clue #2 tells you that Joe must be the teacher.
Clue #3 says Joe is not the carpenter; using clue #1, this means that he must be the mechanic

Joe's 2 jobs are mechanic and teacher; Toms' jobs are attorney and carpenter.

 Answers to Number substituting

   OH
   OH
   OH
+ OH
  NO!

O = ?
H = ?
N = ?

Think about it. Not counting the exclamation point, the answer to the addition problem has only 2 digits. The 'O' remains constant withrough the problem. Therefore 4 x H = O (the letter, not the number) And, 4 x O = N, single digit. What digits can we multiply by 4 and get a single digit? 1 x 4 = 4, 2 x 4 = 8, and that's it becuase 3 x 4 = 12 (2 digits not 1). N = must equal either 4 or 8.  OK, then what digits can we multiple by 4 and get a single digit? Lots of them, because when we multiply, only the number in the 1's column gets written; the other is carried. If H  = 1, then O = 4; if H = 2, O= 8; if H = 3, O = 12 but only the 2 is written, the 1 is carried into the next column to be added in there. If H = 4, O = 16. Thinking further, O can't be 6, because O x 4 has to be a single digit, N.

If we try H = 3, then O = 2. 4 x O = 8 + 1 that you carried, N = 9
The math problem looks like this
  23
  23
  23
+ 23
  92
